Runaway Turtle!

How could a turtle escape and make the run for it, you may ask – turtles are not exactly known for their rebellious temperament. And not only that seems to be a mystery. Here's what happened:

One of Concord's valued and attentive citizens, Mrs. Agatha Bates (76), contacted our editorial team to point out an alleged mistake in one of our local classifieds. She said it was an alert about a missing turtle and Mrs. Bates, who pointed out that she did not need visual aids, was sure she had seen the animal in question. But when she called the phone number given, she realized that the number didn't exist.

Understandably, Mrs. Bates suspected a printing error in the phone number – which we of course checked immediately. It turned out that the announcement had not only not appeared in our newspaper, but in that of our esteemed colleagues from the Concord Insider, but also that it was not a misprint.

Our investigations at the Insider revealed – and here you can see how seriously we take the complaints of our fellow citizens, even if they concern the work of our colleagues – that the ad had been placed and paid for online, and printed perfectly accurate. And yet the dedicated Mrs. Bates could not report the sighting to the owner of the presumably sorely missed animal, because the ad had been placed anonymously.

Now dear Mrs. Bates wonders – and we wonder with her – why would someone do such a thing? A loving description of the animal and how much it is missed, followed by a non-existent phone number. What is your theory? Mrs. Bates is convinced that there is something fishy going on here. So keep an lookout for a turtle on the run– we at the editorial office are keeping a close eye on things, it's even possible that there is a bet on the solution to the mystery 😉
