I have always been a lover of suspense and horror, both in books and movies. Initially, it was the novel, “Where Are the Children” by Mary Higgins Clark, that initiated my lust for a good mystery and Stephen King’s, “The Shining” that made me realize how much I love a good scare.
Although my first two books (one published and the second one in revision) fall under the domestic suspense category, recently, on a road trip through the prairies, a large wind farm next to the highway struck me with an uneasiness that begged to become my next novel, this time in the horror genre.
It wasn’t just the sheer enormity of the bright white structures, their immense white blades spinning simultaneously over the landscape that caught my breath. But as the highway curved and turned, the wind turbines looked as if they were moving and encroaching closer to the road, their blades ready to snatch and fling my vehicle haphazardly through the air.
I remember thinking that this was just another example of my overactive imagination. Oddly enough, when I told the other passenger in my car what I was picturing, she had the exact same reaction – creeped out by these bright, shiny monoliths that appeared to be moving with the curves of the road.
And that was how my new novel, “They’re Watching”, was birthed.

I started writing the first draft of my new horror novel in my home office, a bright space filled with my two loves, books and music. But as the weather turned warmer, my outdoor writing nook became the place where my story really blossomed. Whether it was a beautiful sunny day, or one with grey skies, rain, and thunder, my experience driving past those gargantuan white giants fueled me with the desire to create something scary out of something commonplace.
Sitting quietly in my fenced back yard, my little nook looks cozy and inviting to passersby. But appearances can be deceiving. Little do they know, this eye catching homey structure is where I am most inspired to create my scary stories.
Currently, it’s winter where I live, so I am back writing in my home office for the next few months. But no matter where I lay pen to paper, the scares continue.
I am actively seeking representation from an agent and hope to see “They’re Watching” on bookshelves everywhere.
